The Arctic Trail is a long-distance hiking trail in the above the polar circle. It has a total length of 800 km and lies along the border of Norway, Sweden and Finland. The trail crosses international borders 15 times.
Although the trail is not extreme, it traverses Arctic wilderness and should be treated with caution.
The route moves through a wide range of northern terrain, shifting from high alpine passes and occasional glacier tongues to broad tundra plateaus and forested river valleys. Long sections run above the treeline.
Late August to September the nights get dark enough for the Northern Lights to show up, spectacular autumn colors covers the landscape, and the mosquitoes die off.
